A few words about peter seddon

Peter started playing music at age 6 on recorder. During his school years he learnt how to play piano, trumpet, and guitar. He began performing on stage in his hometown of East London in 1997 and spent the next few years playing in multiple bands and performing professionally while he studied electrical engineering. After his studies finished, he moved to Gauteng to work in the electrical industry where has played in numerous bands non-professionally and began to give lessons in 2003. He left his engineering job in 2015 for a teaching position at a local special needs school where he worked for 2 years, during which he taught engineering studies and gave free guitar lessons to the students as an extra mural.

At this school he was extensively trained in the art of teaching children with serious learning disabilities (ADHD, Autism, etc.), resulting in his special teaching style. He believes that each student is different, learns at a different pace, and needs different types of encouragement to reach their goals. He has been teaching guitar full-time ever since and has a total of 20 years of experience teaching music. He stays up to date with all new developments in the guitar world, continually adding them to the curriculum he teaches. He has studied, and teaches multiple styles: Pop, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Neo-soul, Flamenco, Classical, Metal, R'n'B, Fingerstyle and Carnatic/ Hindustani.

You know that strange face you sometimes see musicians pull when they “jam” on stage? Cool hey? Musicians feel an incredible, indescribable feeling when in the passionate grip of self-expression, becoming one with their instrument. Each note is part of a journey, the design of which is firmly under their control. Once you experience it, you’ll understand why musicians love what they do and where they get the confidence to perform in front of thousands of fans. They simply allow the music to carry them away. They essentially become part of their instrument. The hours spent in lessons and practicing builds the confidence always to choose the right note, allowing them mastery over self-expression.

The weird facial expressions you see them pull during a performance are directly due to this incredible, subconscious connection. I like to think of it as a form of meditation. In fact, most of our brightest minds (Einstein, Max Planck, Benjamin Franklin, Condoleezza Rice, etc.) played musical instruments for this exact reason. Einstein once said: “Life without playing music is inconceivable to me. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music... I get most joy in life out of music”. Einstein was onto something. Many studies show a correlation between musical training and academic success, in both children and adults. Learning to play an instrument stimulates the brain, improving functions like memory and abstract reasoning skills, which are essential for mathematics and science.
